The adventures first begin when a brother and sister named Jack and Annie Smith discover a magical treehouse packed with spellbinding books. Each book has the power to take the siblings on a new and incredible journey through time and space.
The classic Magic Treehouse stories began with the 1992 release of "Dinosaurs Before Dark," which sets the scene for Jack and Annie's treehouse discovery and sees the pair commence on their commencement-ever take a chance, traveling millions of years dorsum in time to the Prehistoric era.
In that location are a further 33 books in the original series, which initially spanned over more than a decade. Then, in the early 2000s, author Mary Pope Osborne decided to take the serial in a new management with her spin-off series, The Magic Tree House: Merlin Missions. She after revisited the original series subsequently a gap of several years, adding several other books to the collection.
The Merlin Missions books nonetheless feature the same nail-biting adventures as the classic series, just in these stories, Jack and Annie start receiving missions from a powerful, ancient wizard named Merlin the Magician. They also team upwardly with another duo of kids, Kathleen and Teddy, who oftentimes join them on their quests and help them out of sticky situations.
The original series and the Merlin Missions stories are the two fiction branches of The Magic Treehouse books, but there'south an additional non-fiction collection too. In 2000, Mary Pope Osborne joined forces with her married man Volition Osborne and her sister Natalie Pope Boyce to write the companion titles 'The Magic Tree House Fact Trackers.' There are four major reading level systems in America, and each one uses a different framework to grade both books and readers, taking into account things like vocabulary, grammar, and sentence length.
The four frameworks are Lexile, Fountas & Pinnell/Guided, Developmental Reading Cess (DRA), and Accelerated Reader(AR). To make things easier, I'll listing the score for each one (where available,) and I'll also include the volume's recommended age range in years.
The Original Magic Treehouse Series
The original books are generally suited to children anile betwixt vi and ten years old who can read independently. Having said that, every kid is different, and reading ability and historic period don't e'er correlate in the aforementioned manner. For example, some kids are already quite avant-garde in their reading at 5 years old and could well be ready to commence on their kickoff-ever Magic Treehouse chance.
On the other hand, kids who struggle with reading may want to wait until they're a trivial older to give these books a endeavour.
The stories in the original serial are mostly shorter than the later publications and written for a younger audience. They're printed in relatively large text, and they make a keen offset introduction to the world of chapter books.
